Douglas E. Carper
Founder and Principal

Douglas E. Carper is founder and sole principal of DEC Capital, Inc., an asset management firm, Commodity Pool Operator (CPO) and Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA). Carper grew up on a family grain and livestock farm in Northeast Nebraska and, after studying Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska, began his career in 1973, first servicing commercial agricultural producers/users in the brokerage area and later developing commodities research and trading methodologies. In 1988, Carper began trading proprietary capital in the futures markets and in 1994 organized and registered as a CTA. During most of the 1990s, he served as a branch manager and within that time was a partner of NYSE member J.C. Bradford & Co. In 1999 DEC Capital also registered as an Introducing Broker (IB), managing a client brokerage business. For an interim period, Carper founded an affiliated company, Biltmore Asset Management, to serve as the entity for his CTA activities and to act as Commodity Pool Operator; both are now operated by DEC Capital, Inc. Carper's extensive trading and research expertise puts DEC Capital in a unique position to advise individuals and institutions on their agricultural portfolios.
